Today is the thing of special computers, if a few hours ago we showed you the micro with more cores inside, now it is the turn to more powerful system, created in China, to dethrone countryman as Tianhe-2.

The new supercomputer by the name of Sunway TaihuLight, and is the most capable on the planet, if we pay attention to the list of TOP500 people mounted. The most striking aspect may be that is 100% ‘Made in China’, with what this means in a war that practically just arrived. It is also important to know that theUnited States vetoed the export of high – performance processors to China.

Yes, the whole system has been built using processors designed and created in the country , they have decided not select anything that was conceived in the United States, or elsewhere on the planet. The architecture is not based on anything previously known.

With its artillery get offer processing power of 93 petaflops, which is five times more than the US most powerful model – more powerful third -, and two to three times more efficient than Tianhe-2 (based on Intel processors) .

Sunway TaihuLight has 10,649,600 cores within 40,960 processors. In the main American machine there are 560,000 chips. Chinese supercomputer uses SW26010 processors that have been created by the Shanghai High Performance IC Design Centre.

More in China than in the US

It is not only the most powerful, also helps increase the number of systems of this type are installed in China: 167. The United States is nearly tied that number with 165, so there is also an important race to qualify as the nation with more units.

Most striking, according to the University of Tennessee, it is that not a single supercomputer in 2001 on Chinese soil and in just over a decade have given back to the tortilla.

The initial idea seems that it was upgrading the Tianhe-2, but with blocking export from the United States, decided it had to accelerate its ‘863’, which promotes the development of systems with technology developed in China. It is crucial to have control over systems that will work on national security, or very important scientific research.
