Copper pipe remains a popular choice for many reasons and is still used in many situations. Six of these are outlined and briefly discussed below.

  • 3. HVAC Systems
  • 4. Medical Gas Systems
  • 5. Automotive Systems
  • 6. Chemical Processing Plants

1. Plumbing Systems

Copper pipes are an integral part of numerous plumbing systems. Their ability to withstand extreme temperatures and high water pressure means that they can be used in both hot and cold water supply systems.

The fact that copper is naturally resistant to corrosion means that it is safe for use in drinking water systems. Additionally, it has antimicrobial properties which help maintain purity.

2. Appliances

For similar reasons to those outlined above, copper pipes or tubes are found in a range of household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers where they circulate water and/or coolant.

3. HVAC Systems

Primarily due to their high thermal conductivity, copper pipes are commonly used in HVAC systems. Being corrosion-resistant and compatible with refrigerants also means they can be used in moisture-prone environments and various systems.

There are a number of situations where copper pipe needs to be joined. The traditional method is to solder. However, this involves a flame which means it is not always feasible. The alternatives are specialist fittings and press systems like those from suppliers such as https://watkinspowis.co.uk/products/copper-pipe-fittings-and-press-systems/. These remove the need for flame.

4. Medical Gas Systems

Copper pipes and tubes are found in hospitals where they are used for the transportation of various gases including oxygen, nitrogen, and nitrous oxide. Their strength, reliability, and non-reactive properties are important for ensuring purity and consistent supply of these gases to wards, operating theatres, and ICUs.

5. Automotive Systems

Copper pipes and tubes are often used in various automotive systems such as brakes, aircon, and hydraulic lines. As they can handle extreme temperatures and high pressure, they are able to ensure performance and safety.

6. Chemical Processing Plants

Copper pipes and tubes are a crucial part of chemical processing plants. Due to their non-corrosive nature and ability to deal with high temperatures, they are used to transport gases and corrosive fluids around the premises.
