Interesting sheet metal facts

  1. One of Leonardo Da Vinci’s sketches detailed what would later become the first recorded example of a rolling mill. Variations of this original design are used in metal fabrication processes to this day, now incorporating advancements in technology.
  2. Sheet metal has a firmly established place throughout history. A businessman named Ransom Eli Olds was thought to have invented the assembly line in 1901, whilst Henry Ford used it from 1913 in the mass production of automobiles.
  3. Sheet metal was used in the construction of the Eiffel Tower, which has been known to change in height in response to the seasons. This is due to the expansion or constriction of the metal in extreme temperatures.
  4. The steel industry is the second biggest in the world and continues to grow. It has a place in many sectors, such as housing, infrastructure, manufacturing, railways, automotive, and agriculture.
  5. Sheet metal has the huge advantage of being a recyclable material. Steel is the most recycled material in the world and can be used again and again without damaging its properties.

Sheet metal industries

The sheet metal and fabrication industries rely on high-quality machinery, such as Roscamat tapping machines.

Machines such as Roscamat tapping machines and tapping arms are used in the metalworking process to facilitate the process of creating holes and threaded holes in sheet metal and other components.

Tapping arms result in highly accurate internal threaded features, which provide both a cost-effective solution and a reduction in the wastage of materials. They are available in both electric and pneumatic form, depending on the industry and use they are required for.
