There is a strange obsession to create the robot image and likeness of the human being, as it is said that this will create empathy and will accept it from us naturally, while there is also a test of the ‘uncanny valley’, which tells us that if robots tend to look too much like a human being will cause a kind of rejection.

Despite this, much of the developments in robotics have been working on creating the perfect humanoid robot, which goes from the appearance, facial expressions, even their ability to talk, but an important point is that it also can be moved as us, something we have been working on the Georgia Technology Laboratory, AMBER.

DURUS, the biped robot with slippers

A year ago we met the DURUS project, a robot that seeks to mimic the movements of the human being to walk, something very similar to what we saw with the robot Atlas of Boston Dynamics, but here the goal is to improve the way they walk up to it identical to that of a human.

We are now presenting the latest update to DURUS, which has improved dramatically their movements to the degree that you can now use sneakers. An important step in this update is the fact that they have gone from flat foot to one arc that allows the heel and then the rest of the plant, something not previously achieved.

The legs of the robot is no longer completely flat, plus area ankles are installed springs to simulate elastic tendons in humans, along with some new springs make the movement makes the whole process a foot human, from placing the heel to the toes off to start a new stride.

This will make robots more range of motion, capable of running at high speed, turning without falling and balance, now the next step is to make him jump. The aim of this kind of development is to create advanced robotic prostheses exoskeletons and efficient, plus they are the basis for humanoid robots of the future.
