The Generation Game to return with Mel And Sue

One of the nation’s favourite game shows – The Generation Game – is set to return to our TV screens, with brand new hosts.

News broke earlier this month of the death of the show’s most famous and longest-serving host, Sir Bruce Forsyth, who fronted the show from 1971 to 1977 and again from 1990 to 1994. Former Great British Bake Off hosts, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, will surely pay tribute when they begin their stint, though they will be keen to avoid a copycat routine.

Nation’s favourite

Previous regular hosts, as well as Bruce Forsyth, have included Jim Davidson and Larry Grayson, with Vernon Kay and Graham Norton hosting one-offs.

Initially commissioned for a four-show run, no launch date has yet been announced, though it is believed that the format will remain loyal to the original, whilst also including new games.

Keep an eye out for an announcement on the date to air, and be sure to sort any TV aerial repair issues beforehand, so coverage is uninterrupted! Gloucester TV aerial installation specialists, Steve Unett, will be happy to offer advice.

A cuddly toy

BBC research found that The Generation Game came top of shows that viewers wanted to see return to their screens. It’s classic family viewing! Different members of the same family, from different generations, compete in various task-based games against another team from a different family, with the goal of winning time on the memory game conveyor belt.

The memory test game is famous the world over, with the winning pair watching and then remembering prizes from appliances through to the infamous and certain cuddly toy!

If Twitter coverage of the announcement was anything to go by, it is certainly set to be a popular revival. The choice of hosts has also gone down well with BBC viewers who were sorry to see Mel and Sue, and the Great British Bake Off, leave the channel. Mel and Sue lost no time in announcing that they would not be continuing as presenters of the show once it moved to Channel 4.
