Why Not To Use VPNs

Richard Brown May 15, 2022 Tech News Leave a Comment

A VPN (virtual private network) is perceived as the easiest and most effective way for people to protect their internet traffic and keep their identities private online. When connected to a secured VPN server, your internet traffic goes through an encrypted tunnel that nobody can see into, including hackers, governments, and your internet service provider.

While the government and your ISP might be monitoring all your online activity every single day, and they might restrict the websites that you can visit online, the virtual private network can provide the security solution that brings back your online privacy and freedom. With the virtual private network, you can easily browse the internet without having to worry about any types of monitoring, tracking, and restrictions that are done by the government, your ISP, or other third parties.

However, this service comes with a risk. Here are five from best online pokies Australia.

  1. Won’t make you completely anonymous

Even the best VPNs can’t guarantee your anonymity online. Your browsing behavior can still reveal your true identity in ways that your VPN service cannot control. If you’re logged into a Google or Facebook account, a VPN won’t be able to stop those companies from monitoring your activity.

  1. May decrease your speed

Because a VPN reroutes and encrypts your connection to the internet through the VPN server, your connection speed might drop slightly. This is why it’s important to test your VPN speed when trying out a new provider. Most premium VPN services such as NordVPN and ExpressVPN won’t slow down your internet too much, but the speed rarely stays the same.

  1. Risk of being blocked by certain services

There’s a lot of content online that you can only access from within a certain region, which includes streaming services like Netflix. These services lockout internet users from countries where they aren’t allowed to broadcast content. This is due to contracts with movie distributors that only allow content to be shown in specific regions. In addition to Netflix, other services that use region blocking include BBC iPlayer and HULU, for example. Meanwhile, some governments also block content because it threatens their values. US online casinos won’t block you as you can even browse the platform anonymously if you wish to.

  1. Difficult to set up for business users

For individual users, VPN might be easy to set up since you just need to download your VPN apps or software and install it on your device. However, for business users, the case might not be like that. For business users, VPN is much more complicated to set up, especially if you need to set up the private network on your business premise. It will add more complexity to your overall network connection, and it will affect each device that you use on your business. While many VPN companies can simplify that for you, you might still need a dedicated network management team to oversee the private connection network on your business.

  1. Add more cost to your network connection

The virtual private network is a premium private connection service that you need to pay separately from your regular network connection or ISP. Also, if you want to use a VPN router, you have to purchase additional router hardware to be able to be used alongside your VPN connection. Thus, it might not come to you free of charge. Sure, there are many free private connections that you can use, but they are generally not reliable and they have lots of limitations. So, another disadvantage of private connection is that it can be very costly for you in the long term.
